The Holidays Are Over: Finding Comfort in Snowy Sweden

The Holidays Are Over: Finding Comfort in Snowy Sweden

As the sparkle of the holidays fades into the past, the New Year begins in earnest. In Sweden, January is a season of snow, serenity, and silver skies. Outside my window, a thick blanket of snow stretches across the landscape, transforming even the simplest trees into sculptures of white. It’s a world that demands both awe and respect—a reminder of nature’s power and beauty.

Inside, though, it’s a different story. My studio is warm and inviting, with candles flickering softly and the scent of fresh coffee mingling with the crisp winter air sneaking in through a slightly cracked window. The holiday bustle may be over, but this is my favourite part of winter: the calm after the celebration.

Today, I’m leaning into this stillness, using it as a space to create and reconnect with my work. Whether it’s brainstorming new ideas for Workplaced partnerships, planning boutique updates for the Bohemian Emporium, or sketching out interior designs, this cosy environment nurtures creativity.

There’s something special about working in the heart of a Swedish winter. The snow outside muffles the noise of the world, creating a sense of isolation that is both soothing and inspiring. I think this quiet has a way of sharpening focus, allowing me to fully immerse myself in my projects without the usual distractions.

Yet, the snow isn’t just a backdrop; it’s a mood-setter. It invites me to find warmth in the details: a soft knit jumper, a hot cup of tea, and a playlist that combines classical melodies with the soft crackle of a fireplace. These small joys make even the busiest of days feel like a retreat.

So while the holidays may be behind us, winter is far from over. And perhaps that’s the magic of this season—the way it invites us to slow down, find beauty in simplicity, and make space for the things that truly matter.

For now, I’ll remain here in my snowy cocoon, creating, planning, and dreaming of what’s to come. I hope wherever you are, you’ve found a moment of peace to start your year just right.

Stay warm and inspired,

Leyla Salm
